Updates from Our Docs

  • Know someone who could use a direct primary care physician? Dr. Ashley Loughner, DO,Dr. Rebecca Byard, MD, and Dr. Lela Dougherty, MD are currently accepting new patients at their respective practices. Share the news with them and let’s bring healthcare to the people – without the hassle!

  • Stop by the Bloomfield Saturday Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 8 to visit with Dr. Natalie Gentile and Dr. Loughner. They’ll be administering flu shots on site. Register at

  • Direct Care Physicians of Pittsburgh will be at the Health, Wellness & Sports Expo Oct. 15-16 at the North Park Sports Complex. The event will feature professionals in fitness, personal wellness, healthcare and sports – all under one roof. Learn more at

  •  Say hi to Dr. Byard on Oct. 20 at the Green Tree Farmers’ Market from 4-7 p.m.

Walk with our Docs

You don’t have to be a Direct Care Physicians of Pittsburgh patient to walk with our docs. You can ask questions, learn more about their practices and mingle with new friends! Walk with a Doc is free and open to the public.

  • Join Dr. Gentile for Walk with a Doc: Highland Park on Friday, Oct. 7. Meet at 10 a.m. at the fountain at the Highland Park entrance. This month’s community partner is Harvie Farms, a delivery service that provides locally sourced produce and other farm-fresh items! They will be on hand to give out coupons so that you can try it and see for yourself what a difference local makes!

Flu Shot Clinics

  • Need a flu shot? You’ve come to the right place! DCPP doctors have planned a series of flu shot clinics this fall across the region to help you and your family. To find one near you, check out the “Events” page on and register for a clinic of your choice. You also can schedule an in-office appointment with your doc to get your yearly flu shot.

Recipe of the Month: Dr. Dougherty's Fast and Flavorful Chili

Settle into fall with this easy, healthy and yummy weekday meal.


  • 1 Pepper, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 30 oz cans of diced tomatoes
  • 2 15 oz cans of black beans
  • 1 15 oz can of corn (or frozen works, too)
  • 1/2 cup of Whole Foods super grains
  • 1 cup vegetable stock
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1-2 tbsp of chili powder
  • 1-2 tbsp of cumin
  • 2 tsp of salt
  • Black pepper to taste


  • Saute veggies with olive oil in a large pot for 8-10 minutes, until softened.  
  • Add in the spices.
  • Simmer for 30-45 minutes.
